In class we have been experimenting with different boat designs using
tin foil, seeing which designs can hold the most marbles. Today we
have designed our own boat. Homework this week is to make your boat,
aiming to hold the most marbles possible and hopefully including a
means of movement - either oars, a paddle, a sail or some other
solution. Happy building!

In our first half term we invented our own islands. We designed and
sewed a flag for these islands, we wrote a persuasive brochure
encouraging people to visit and made a model out of junk and papier
mache. Here are a few of our efforts.

Here are a few photos of some of our lessons in class. The last ones
are us trying to persuade Queen Elizabeth (Mr Mainprize) to sponsor
our trips of exploration to the new world.

We had loads of fun a few weeks back using our measuring skills to
build up a comprehensive set of measurements of the school building.
We had to use estimates in some cases as Mr Mainprize wouldn't let us
up on the roof to get accurate measurements.

We've been really lucky in year 4 this year to have some wonderful
teachers come into school to show us how to play both clarinet and
trumpet. This culminated in our recent concert, which we all enjoyed
enormously.

Early October found us in year 4 going on a trip to the Tower of
London. We started the day having a workshop in the Tower in which
some of us dressed up as members of the Tudor Court, and learning lots
about Tudor society.

We then went into the Tower, seeing the crown jewels and where
traitors and high class brigands have been held an executed for a
thousand years.

We've been spending a lot of time in the library this term. Not only have we been getting books out every Thursday but we've had fantastic visits from authors Lou Kuenzler http://www.loukuenzler.com/home/Welcome_.html and Jasmine Richards http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/3387889.Jasmine_Richards. Both were incredibly inspiring when talking about writing, and who knows? Maybe we've got a future successful author among us in Blue Class...  

On Wednesday 28th September the whole school took part in No Pens Day, when nothing was written down (even by Mr Mainprize). We enjoyed talking through our ideas, putting on drama performances and working through maths problems in groups.
